Wildfire @ Kovan (Western Japanese Grill)

Address: Block 212, Hougang Street 21 #01-337 Singapore 530212
Tel: 6283 8925
Operating Hours: 1200 to 2300 hrs

Was introduced to this 'restaurant' @ Kovan by an army friend. It's an easy place to find as it's  near the bowling alley in Kovan.

Well, they don't actually charge GST and service charge in this place. So, it's not such a bad place to try out some fusion food. :D

According to their waiter, they are actually famous for their Wagyu Beef. Too bad for us, we didn't get to try their signature beef as both of us doesn't take beef. :(

Anyway, we ordered their Teriyaki Hotplate Chicken and Japanese Curry Katsu from the recommendations of the waiter. They too offers a variety of drinks (Hot & Cold) from expressos to soft drinks and of course some deserts such as Oreo brownie as well (which we didn't try as we were too full from our breakfast wanton mee @ Sam Leong Road).

Japanese Curry Katsu

On your left is the Japanese Curry Katsu. It's quite a decent dish considering the price. Coleslaw, Fried Rice, Katsu and Japanese curry served on the plate. It's nothing spectacular though. Value for money is what I say. :)

Teriyaki Hotplate Chicken
This is a disappointment. The gravy is just too salty for our liking. It's like putting a pinch of salt and a piece of chicken into your mouth. I think adding some rice can help balance up this dish. boo!
The mashed potato is just right though. Soft enough to melt in your mouth once it enters. But overall this dish is a boo! boo! :(
You can skip it.

Last but not least, they are actually changing their menu 2 weeks from now. The waiter actually showed us the new menu and sort of enticing us to return their in a few weeks time to try their new dishes. We are still pondering though after a not-too-good experience.

Anyway, if you are hungry and happens to be in Kovan, do pop in to try! :D

City Plaza Mee Hoon Quay

Went to check out this food store at City Plaza from a colleague's recommendation. The Mee Hoon Quay is quite decent, I would say it taste just like the ones you eat at other places. The only difference is in its smell with sesame oil being added in the soup base.

You can try it out if you happen to pass by the area.If not, don't waste your time.

The store is located on the top floor of the shopping centre. You may have to wait for some time as there seems to be many people popping by just to eat this Mee Hoon Quay!

On New Year Day 2010, we went to this restaurant for supper and concluded that the MaMaMia Murtabak and Mee Goreng Pattaya was great.

Today, my dear and I had went to this restaurant again.

The standard for MaMaMia Murtabak and Mee G Pattaya remains great. Yum Yum :)

MaMaMia Murtabak @ $9.50 (inclusive of GST)

Mee G Pattaya @ $5.80
(inclusive of GST)

Ice Teh Cino (Grande) @ 3.50 (inclusive of GST)

This time round though, we avoid ordering the western food as the earlier experience shows that the westen food fare average only.

In conclusion, this is a good place for supper if you don't mind your waistline getting thicker. And yes, the
MaMaMia Murtabak and Mee Goreng Pattaya taste better than Jalan Kayu and Feng Seng. Yum Yum (^^)

面亭 Men-Tei Ramen

Address: 61 Robinson Road #01-01 Robinson Centre Singapore 068893
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 11 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 9.30 pm
Website: www.men-tei.com

Conveniently located nearly Boon Tat Street (Lau Pa Sat), the ramen @ 面亭 is a die-die must try. Dishes are limited to 4 types of Tonkotsu Ramen ranging from non-spicy to super spicy versions, Shio Ramen and Shoyu Ramen. There are other side-dishes such as Gyoza which we didn't try due to limited capacity of our stomach. hee!hee!

Noodles' texture is unique and totally absorbs the soup (difficult to describe the taste, your really need to try to know), literally 'melt in your mouth' tonkotsu, unique 'look', texture & taste of egg.

Conclusion: The 6 of us finished almost everything in the bowl leaving some room for 'something else' later.
So the answer is simple: You will regret if you don't try those ramen @ 面亭. No joke! :D
Yummy!Yummy!Yummy! all the way.

Menu

Extra Spicy Tonkotsu

Tonkotus Ramen

Shoyu Ramen

Shio Ramen

Good to the last drop! :D

Carl's JR's Texas Toothpick

Address: Carl's Jr's all over Sg!

New dish introduced by Carl Jr recently.
Excellent finger food to fill your hungry stomach... Seaweed covered under potatoes with a taste of spicy.
Shiok! Shiok!

The Eastern Restaurant 东方

Address: 176 Orchard Road #01-57 The CentrePoint Singapore 238843

This restaurant's 小笼包 is supposedly one of the better ones you can find in Sg. The  soup in the 小笼包 is tasty and fulfilling together with the vinegar and sliced-ginger, it is quite difficult not to go for another piece. Yum! Yum!

We also tried it's 麻婆豆腐 (Tofu with Spicy Sauce) which tasted alright but not spicy enough for me personally. Not much of a crowd even during lunch time during weekdays.

Conclusion: Eat it when ONLY you have a strong urge for 小笼包. :D

Teochew Cuisine Restaurant (Blk 132 Bukit Batok West Ave 6)

This restaurant is definitely a NO-NO return for all of us.

First is the sourish crispy tofu they served (lucky they changed a new set for us but one piece still went inside my stomach -.-!), then it's the below-average Yam Paste with Ginkgo nuts that failed to meet the mark. The Imperial Pot, Claypot Chicken Dice and Vegetables are all average. Last but not least, the service quality is thumbs-down. So don't waste your time travelling to this place for good Teochew food, no chance that you will be satisfied. See photo below for our receipt for a meal for 5.
